Complaint / Review
MCI WorldCom Wireless
Ripoff

I am writing this report regarding a cellular phone company, MCI WorldCom Wireless. They appear to be running a total scam and something needs to be done about it. I am sure my experience cannot be an isolated situation. I had seen an advertisement offering an attractive deal on Cellular phones and service.

I called MCI WorldCom and ordered two cell phones and service. Upon receipt of the phones, I attempted several times to contact Customer Service to notify them that my voicemail had not been activated. After several attempts and being put on hold numerous times for undeterminable lengths of time on many occasions, I decided that this was not the type of service I was lead to believe WorldCom would deliver.

The only way I was ever able to get in touch with anyone at WorldCom was to call their residential service department and demand to speak to a supervisor who finally gave me the information on how and where to return the cellular phones and equipment. At that time, all equipment was promptly returned before mailing labels were ever received and I notified WorldCom to cancel all service immediately.

This was back in September and approximately one week after I had originally received the phones. Just yesterday, 1/30/01, I received billing invoices totaling over $300. I received four invoices which indicate that I continue to be charged for monthly service. Upon receipt of these bills, I immediately tried to contact MCI WorldCom Wireless and again, was not able to get through to a customer service representative.

I continued to try and try until late into the night when I finally was put on hold for 63 minutes before someone answered. The Customer Service representative informed me that they have no record of receiving the equipment back or a request to cancel service.

Luckily, I saved all of the UPS tracking information and I have specific documentation that WorldCom received and signed off on delivery for the return of all equipment. I faxed a copy of this information to Customer Service today but have little faith that this situation will be rectified in the near future. Either this is a total scam or a very poorly run business.
