WorldCom Wireless signed many people up for services in the Northwest Florida area, assigning them "temporary" Mobile Alabama phone numbers. Then they disappeared completely from Northwest Florida, abandoning those customers and refusing to allow them to disconnect the non-service. So now, I (and many many others who were duped by WorldCom Wireless) have a cellphone with a phone number that is long distance for anyone to call AND there is no local service, so that any phone calls we make with these phones costs us exhorbitant roaming and long distance charges.
Before you sign up with WorldCom Wireless, call their Customer "Service" number (800-254-8991). Once you see how long you are on hold (hours in many cases) you'll come to your senses. Of course, you might get lucky and get your call answered in less than an hour. If so, maybe you'll have the same experience I've had - those customer service representatives have called me "stupid" and "uncooperative" for questioning the ridiculous situation I now find myself in.
