Complaint / Review
Kohls
Weekly Ads

Kohls should be ashamed, as should every
other store that does this. I am appalled at the promotion of eating disorders through ads.

Since this is about the advertising which, I assume, is nationwide, it is not a complaint about a specific store. I have not included the location for that reason.

The Sunday, October 2 ad book in the newspaper features a very anorexic girl. Some within the pages are also horrible looking but, the front cover is the worst!

Granted, since its advertising Vera Wang and she, herself, appears to be anorexic, I guess the clothes will be a perfect fit. Bravo, Vera!

I am sick and tired of people muttering about how terrible this epidemic is that young girls and boys need to be given the confidence to be who they are, yet, THIS is what they continue to see. Nothing will change if the retailers and the modeling industry continue the promotion of unhealthy body images.

By the way, this girl, as with all, is not in the least appealing to my eyes. If I designed clothing, she is the last person I would want to wear it. But, then, I am a 62 year old woman.

I don't know when or how it happened that this image was adopted as the perfect looking body, but, it is not. It is unhealthy and dangerous and we know people die from this disorder. Perhaps you can feature some of the teen models in their caskets to show how wonderful they look DEAD!

The young men in the ads are also borderline. Actually, some are obviously full blown anorexic. I am so happy that after years of fighting for women's rights, this country now gives men the right to be as stupid as we are!

Incidentally, another complaint about your store, which is a place I formerly enjoyed shopping, when first introduced to the company in the '90's in Illinois, is that now, as with most retailers, the appeal seems to be solely for the youth. My 53 year old husband cannot find pants that aren't baggy or pleated and really, really, "COOL."

Hello, advertising, "Childen, " it's my husband and his age range, who has a solid job and skills and a good income, who buys. Why you only appeal to teenagers, who don't yet have their own jobs, is a puzzle to me.

Also, you can STOP the MUSIC. I was recently in one of your stores, (all do this), and the cacophony, (look it up), of, "Music, " played does not make me want to dawdle. If you continue these practices, at least have the courtesy to post a sign on your doors, "Caution, people 30 and over should not enter."

Here's an idea, why doesn't your company establish a, "Teens Only Store?" There you go.

Suubmitted by a very disgruntled OLD Person, Susan Bruhn. You may contact me at [email protected], if you wish.
