Michaels Arts & Crafts Store has recently started a new Return Policy which is an Invasion of Customer's Privacy
Cash returns accompanied by original current receipt require scanning of customer's Driver's license or Passport into Michaels computer database!!! [B]So in other words, if you pay cash for an item at Michaels instead of using your credit card, and then need to return it. You must not only show your Driver's license in order to receive a refund, but they
scan it into their computer database also. This occurs even though you have your original receipt and are returning on time, not late.

The news is full of examples of store and corporation databases being invades by hackers.
[b]this privacy violation on the part of michaels arts and crafts cannot be tolerated

It is inappropriate to require scanned ID, or any ID for that matter, when a return is accompanied by a valid timely receipt. There is no need for a store to know our name, address, our DL number and then, worse yet, store it in a database. This practice exposes customers to identity theft, sale of our personal information, and is wrong in principle.
Read the Fine Print on your recent receipts to see this new policy. There were NEVER any signs at the registers about this change, so customers have been victimized with notice only AFTER making the purchase
Vote with your feet and patronize only the stores that respect their customers' privacy and STOP SHOPPING at those that don't.
Contact Michaels corporate - If we do not protect our privacy now this will open up a path for more erosion of our privacy.
