Last week I received an email offering work at home (I know... Slap me!) for people with PayPal accounts. It was offering to pay 10% the amount of money transferred through Western Union for them as well as reimbursing costs.
They deposited $1200 in my PayPal account and wanted me to transfer $1000. I went to My Account in PayPal and saw that the transaction was "COMPLETE" and then started the transfer from PayPal to my local bank, they say it takes 3-4 to complete. I then went to PayPal's Frequently asked Questions before starting the transfer. I couldn't find any pertaining to me wondering if the funds could be reversed the closest I could find was one that told someone sending money to me if they could reverse a complete transaction. Can I cancel a payment that I've already sent?
You may only cancel a payment if it is unclaimed, and the recipient has not yet signed up for a PayPal account and collected the money. (If your payment is completed and you'd like to request a refund, please contact the recipient of the payment directly.)
The following unclaimed payments may be cancelled:
A payment sent to an email address that is not associated with a PayPal account - once the email address is added to a PayPal account, the payment will be automatically credited to the balance of that account
A payment sent to a recipient with an unconfirmed email address - for security reasons, PayPal can only credit payments sent to a confirmed email address
Now, after reading this I felt secure since I would have to be contacted to reverse the money. I was totally deceived! I sent the money transfer and a few hours later the money was collected. About 30 minutes later I received an email from a fellow that read:
Apparently paypal has sent you 1200 dollars from me to you for something of which i have no idea. Could you give me info on what it was i was suppossed to have purchased? I did not bid on any auctions within the last week.
I went to my PayPal account immediatly and instead of seeing my money was in the process of transferring to my bank it said "REVERSED." I immediatly then tried to call PayPal and found they were closed until 4:00am. I could not sleep and stayed up until 4:00am and called. I was told that PayPal is mainly for Auctions and since I had not sold anything the money was returned. I told them I did a service for the money. I'm outa luck I was and am devistated! I felt everything was secure with using PayPal as I have had an account for 3 years with them. I later received an email from PayPal saying:
Dear (myname,)
PayPal has reviewed your account and has determined that we are unable to continue doing business with you.
I feel like they "kicked me while I was down" besides loosing my money, now I can no longer use PayPal for my Ebay auctions buying or selling.
I feel hurt, deceived, ripped off, and stupid.
