First of all, I used to be a frequent (weekly) customer of Movie Gallery before they closed all the stores in our area about August. I even purchased movies from them before they closed the doors to the store at their closeout sale, and checked to verify my account was clear, even though I had not been contacted regarding late fees.
Thankfully, I have a service called CreditInform that watches my credit report for any changes. Dec. 2010 I got an alert of a collection report from movie gallery—$93. I tried to find a customer service number for them to no avail.
So I called the collection agency's customer service number that CreditInform provided me. They told me it was for a single movie rental late fee (about $5) back in June and the rest was collection agency fees (NCS). Are you freakin' kidding me?! I had been told multiple times that I had no late fees by MG employees for over a year, and had never been contacted regarding this said late fee for over a year! I should sue them for this scratch on my credit, but I just want it done with so I paid the fee and will never again be a part of MG.
