I saw an article in a food magazine lauding the Morehead City, NC Seafood Festival (Oct 1 to Oct 5 - first weekend in Oct annually). It sounded wonderful. My wife and I drove 605 miles to this "festival" and found it was a large flea market! Junky jewelry, junky hats, junky T-shirts, etc. What do CD's of dulcimer music have to do with seafood? The only "seafood" we saw were deep fried shrimp and french fries and shrimp patties with funnel cakes.
Even the merchants hate it; they close for the weekend because, as one told me, all these people do is come in and steal and use the bathroom. A couple of residents told me they stopped going long ago - it wasn't worth it.
I'm posting this as a warning to anyone tempted to attend this fraud next year and to suggest you gather info on any "festival" you may see advertized.in PA there's an "Apple Festival" that is pretty much the same thing: many booths selling crappy stuff that have nothing to do with the theme of the festival. I learned my lesson.
