We decided to have our daughter's 6th birthday party at Makutu's Island in Chandler. I called and booked the party on July 27. The party was to be held August 8. I was informed at that time of their cancelation policy. I had 48 hours to cancel if needed. Seeing that it was my daughter's birthday party, I had every intention of using their facility. Who wants to cancel on a 6 year old.
Unfortunately, my husband was given his two weeks notice on Monday, August 3. Still 6 days prior to our reservation. I am a stay at home mom. The only income we have coming into our home is from my husband's job.
I immediately called Makutu's Island that Monday, August 3 to tell them about the current situation, hoping that they would give me back the $125 that I had already given them to hold the reservation. I realize this was past the 48 hour window but it was a week before the party and I've had other companies - who wanted my business and referrals in the future - be sympathetic or helpful. After all, policies are policies and customer service is a different thing.
Not only were they not sympathetic to our situation, they were 100% rude. It took several phone calls and messages to get anyone to call me back. A gentleman by the name of "Kyle" called Wednesday evening, August 5 and I could not believe the lack of customer service skills that this person had. Not once did he let me speak. When he did finally take a breath, he pretended he could not hear me and hung up.
I am completely shocked that a company that is supposed to be a "family atmosphere" could have such issues with customer service. I will never again visit Makutu's Island and I can't possible imagine recommending them to anyone if this is how you are treated when something comes up that doesn't fit their agenda.
