WLIReservationRewards fraudulent credit card charge

I recently purchased an online movie ticket from Fandango. The confirmation e-mail included a link for what appeared to be a free reward. I unfortunately clicked on the link and was routed to the reservation reward web site. I immediately ended the session.

The next time I checked my e-mail there was a message from 'Reservation Rewards' confirming my membership and described how I could get a $10 rebate on my next ticket purchase. The rest of the e-mail described the member benefits and the monthly charge of $10. The rebate sounded to good to be true and since I didn't give them my credit card info I ignored the e-mail.

At the end of the month my credit card statement showed a $10 charge from 'WLI*RESERVATIONREWARDS. Co800-732-7031 ct'. I immediately called the card company. They cancelled the card and reversed the charges. I then cancelled my 'membership' with Reservation Rewards.

Apparently, there is no law to prevent one company from giving other companies your credit card number without your approval. Reservation Rewards should have asked me the method of payment prior to signing up. Obviously I would have declined the membership. This is how the SCAM works.By clicking the site you are unknowingly automatically signed up for monthly charges on your stolen credit card number.

I have read that this type of scam is marginally legal. However, I always thought that charging your credit card without your knowledge was fraud in any State.
