I booked a vacation with my travel agent on 5/15/99. My destination was Punta Cana Dominican Republic. The dates that I would be traveling 7/10/99 to 7/17/99. The travel agent booked the package with GoGo tours travel company.
The price 1006.00. I picked up the itinerary on 7/6/99 from the agent's office. On saturday 7/10/99 I arrived at JFK airport at 5:30am to check in only to discover that my flight had left the day before! I immediately contacted my travel agent at her office to find out why the dates had been changed, and further more why I had not been notified. She confirmed the original
dates 7/10/99 to 7/16/99 and told me that Go Go tours must have made a very big mistake. Nevertheless I had to return to my apartment and wait until the matter could be resolved between my travel agent and GoGo tours. Each one blaming the other, yet no one offering a solution.
Finally I had to call a different airline and pay an additional 459.20 for a one way ticket to Punta Cana. I reached my destination on sunday 7/11/99 but I had to return with GoGo tours on friday 7/16/99. Ultimately I lost two days of vacation that I paid for and had to spend 459.20 in addition to 1006.00. Is this fair?
Who is liable? My travel agent or the tour company? Or perhaps both.
