I was totally misled by Gary Ernest Melchiorre of Star Brand Consturction. He came off as a nice caring concerned guy and I totally fell for it hook line and sinker. Now I am over $50,000 dollars in debt with an unfinished house. My handicapped brother has special needs and needs access to his bathroom but there is no way he can use a bathroom with an incomplete shower and no toilet.
Melchiorre installed a wooded fence for my sister and it appeared to be a decent job, so I did not research him and took him at his word which was a giant mistake. He is a charming talker and knows how to talk a very good game. My job started out to be a $35,000 investment that grew outrageously. First and foremost DO NOT TAKE HM AT HIS WORD. I kept asking him to put things into writing and show what the cost were and how much more things were going to cost. I continually asked for everything in writing which I never got. Wish I had gone online and found his felony charges for doing business in Florida without a license.
His web ad shows ": We are a full service co. 30 yrs exp. 100% customer satisfaction with 8 employees, never use subcontractors free estimates never ask for money up front 100.00 sign and then 25% draws will offer a 10% discount". While he worked at my home for 5 weeks he had 6 different employees who were all newly working for him and to this date 5 no longer work for him. The quality of work done at my home was and is unacceptable. The grout, drywall, and painting are messy and have to be redone. He walked out off the job before completion. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF PAYING A CONTRACTOR IN FULL UNTIL THE JOB WAS COMPLETE.
Gee wonder why he would never put anything in writing???
DON'T LEARN THE HARD WAY. Make him put it in writing and stick to his word. Yes there are two sides to every story, but think to yourself what reputable business would have trouble putting things in writing to protect himself and inform the customer.
