City of McAlester, Oklahoma
The entire place... Over priced, poor quality, miserable service, hideous food, unfriendly, defensive, rapacious and greedy

It has been my unfortunate experience to have spent 90 days in hotels in this 'city' since 1/08...

Hotels: Overpriced! The entire town is predicated on preying upon oil companies and their crews. I can stay at a Hilton or Marriot in Tulsa for $30-40 LESS than a Holiday Inn or Hampton Inn there (McAlester).

Food: I paid (approx) $27 for a steak dinner (southside of town) and when I asked for some additional butter was directed to a blue and yellow bottle of 'squeeze Parkay' on the table—the steak itself was ordered med-rare and was served 'blue and cold' throughout... Tremendously tough.

Chilis—never order ANY meat there unless you want it carbonized, it won't matter how you order it, you get it 'their way'.

Mazzolis Pizza—during the blizzard of Jan.'11 I managed to make my way into it on foot, from the Hampton Inn—I was turned away, (with diners at their tables), with a lecture that "we shouldn't even be open!"—like the storm was MY fault... So, on foot, in -41 wind chill, I was sent (on foot) away without so much as a cup of coffee...

Dennys—the only Dennys (on earth) ever to 'run out' of coffee...

Pete's&if you want a salad of wilted lettuce in an inch of oil & vinegar...

Chef Billy's was the only good place in town and it closed over a year ago.

My impression of the 'pervasive psychology' of this place is; "Stick it to the travellers/visitors while you can.." I'm not sure if this can be traced back to some 'depression-era, mean hearted, survival heritage' or a 'self-styled nobility of poverty"—probably some combination of both... Maybe it's merely 'smugness'.
