Community Voters Project Big Mean non profit slave labor exceedingly high demands and unfair working conditions, Reading, Richmond, Harrisburg, Hampton, Norfolk, Virginia, Ohio, Colorado, Florida

I worked for a voter registration drive of this huge non profit organization that preys on young college graduates and hires them into director positions and makes them devote their lives and energy into doing any and everything the Fund wants them to do. The job often requires relocation and they do not pay for those expenses. They will tell you one day that you have to go to another city the very next day, find an office and find your own place to live that is preferably free. They will only reimburse mileage for 0.19 cents a mile and it takes forever to get your reimbursement back. Working for the registration drive, I worked from 9am until 11pm daily including the weekends and on payroll days I would not leave the office until midnight. All of that with no lunch break! You have to eat when you can but when you try to leave the office to have a real moment to yourself you feel guilty because there is a ton of work to do and one of the other directors will have to do it while you are eating. The job description said occasional weekends which was untrue. We were required to work every Saturday and towards the end of the drive Sundays were mandatory as well.in a week I worked about 65-70 hours or more but only got paid for working 40 hours a week. We were not getting paid for working the weekends or anytime after 5pm. We were garunteed jobs up until the election but after the voter registration deadline was over we were all laid off with no explanation even though we exceeded our registration goal and was very successful and was faithful to the company. Not even a "thanks for all the hard work and long hours".
