I was employed by RFK for almost 2 years. I told them right off I had a disability. I told my supervisor I was under care and taking medication. I got all satisfactory employee evaluations even with my illness. I cared about my job very much and used to like the company. I still like my former Director. Not the latter one that fired me behind my back.
I raised money for the site I was working; sought donations (monetary and in - kind) from public and private entities; donated my own time, gifts and money for the kids holidays; and mentored a child I cared for in their custody on my own time.
As soon as my illness caused me to be hospitalized for a week, against my clinicians advice, they kept putting me on shifts that were causing me to work under conditions I could not tolerate because of the level of stress. They did not make a permanent reasonable accomodation for my disability, which would have been overnights that I constantly requested. So did my therapist, by letter. They later hired an employee for nights after they fired me.
I was notified by a letter from our pension provider on how to collect my pension one day. When I called Boston headquarters to ask why I got that, they said because I had been terminated. I sought redress through MCAD; who investigated and found probable cause in my favor, but this thing has been languishing because I can not afford an attorney and they do not have one available to defend me right now. I have all my paperwork ready to go this, and it's just sitting here, gathering dust.
I need help to get them to settle with me, because they treated me in a disrespectful, disgraceful manner. I did nothing to warrant this. I'm tired of this... It has been going on too long. However, I refuse to let them get away with it. I wonder if Robert F. Kennedy's family would appreciate a business with their fathers' name treating disabled employees this way.
