I have been unsucessfully trying to get the Dept of Economic and the Attorney Generals office to collect child support owed to me from 1983. They are not doing their job or using the measures they are required to use by federal law.in May I had to take my ex back to court for failure to pay for the fourth time. We were ordered by the judge to get with DES to get a calculation of arrears with interest owed to me.
Since then I have received 8 miscalculations. I believe they are helping my exhusband avoid paying this money. They had a hearing with my ex and his lawyer that I was not in attendance at. They are not suppose to speak to either of us alone. They lied and insisted I was in attendance and they have my lawyer representing my ex on the minute entry.
My lawyer was not in attendance either he was in fact in Jamaica. When I write to them on this they never really get the hearing date correct so they can avoid having to admit it. They are telling me my ex husband owes me $9,000.00 in arrears. Last August a man from DES did a calculation and had my exhusband owing me $20,000.00 something. Now when I filed contempt of court for the upteenth time they re-did a calculation and came up with the nine thousand.
Now I ask this? How did the amount go down over ten thousand when no payment has been made in a year and one half? I also ask this, "These people collected this money dispersed this money yet they have no accurate records?"
They lie treat you like shit and they are getting away with it. I say we oust them!!! We get together and file a law suit, we have to stop this. They are required by law to do things they are clearly not doing their job. I believe they are changing amounts owed because they get grants for the amounts they show and if they were the correct amounts they would be penalized so they change them to suit themselves. The Attorney Generals office is as much to blame. Only we can stop these people.
We do have the power to band together on this. Too bad if they lose their jobs because they basically did away with Welfare. They don't deserve our money that is paying them. I am sick of being treated like some scumbag. The way they are calculating the money owed to me is not correct.
They are rewarding my exhusband for not paying ontime or monthly. If he missed three months of child support then paid four at once they are applying the missed three months of the child support to an interest earning arrears. They are not charging interest on the missed payments or the late payments. This is not right. Only we can stop them.
