Pleasure Time Readers Ripoff fraudulent use of debit card

I was called by this company trying to sell me a 5yr magazine subscription. I was asked for a credit card number to verify that I was who I was. At first I did not want to give it to them until I was given the terms, price, etc. But, they immediately stated that I was protected under my banks terms and that they would not charge my card unless I specifically stated so.

I was lulled into a false sense of security and went ahead and gave them the number. They immediately began detailing the payments, length of payments and what I would receive in return.

Before she could finish I stated, several times, that I did not want to go through this. The call was suddenly terminated.

A few seconds later, my phone rings and it was them again. They apologized and began to question me on why I did not want to go through with it. I told them that I just did not want the magazines what so ever. They then asked how they where going to remove my information from the 'encrypted system'. I told them that if I incurred charges I would dispute them. She bade me good night and hung up.

Today I found out that they had charged my account $39.99. Their customer service number was on my statement along with their company name, so I called. The customer service rep asked for my number and she verified my name. I told her that I had incurred charges for a subscription I did not want. She said that I had to have authorized them to make the charge. I told her I did not. She then played the a recording. To my disbelief I hear a woman talking to a man. She asked him what his name was. He stated mine in a hispanic/hindi accent. She asked for the address and again he stated mine. She went through the questionaire with this individual and finally he authorized them to charge the account.

The customer service rep told me that it was obvious that it was not me. She asked if my card had been stolen. I said no. She gave me an address and told me to write to this company and let them know what I have just stated here and she hung up.

I don't know about you, but it leads me to believe that they proceeded to enter my credit card information way before I even authorized them to do anything with it and when I said I would not complete the purchase it was too late. So to cover their, butts they asked for someone to pose as me. Also, since my name is of hispanic origins they took it for granted that I spoke with a hispanic accent.

I've sent them the letter. I don't know if it will help me recover my money though.
