My wife and I recently moved back to Kansas City and did not have many options. We went with the first guy who called back. His name is Bryan Sloan. He claimed to be the landlord everybody wanted. He had pretty tight stipulations on his leases. We looked at one of his properties which was/is in very bad condition but agreed that if we rented it, it would be 'as is.' I am handy so figured I could do the work to get it livable. I gave him $500.00. $400.00 was to hold the house and would go to the deposit if we rented the house. We said we would take the weekend to decide. Once we sat down and did the math, we decided we could not afford it. We called Bryan and told him that we would still like to rent from him but at a later date. He refused to give us any money back and would not even talk on the phone about it. We called back several times and he finally said that he had had "many calls" over the weekend from people looking to rent the house. If he could reach one of them he would give our money back. Apparently none of the many, many people who looked at the house were willing to rent it so he refuses to give our $400.00 back to us. We have filed a complaint with the attorney general and are waiting for a call back from Action 41 news. He has an expired real estate license but we are looking to complain to the real estate commission. This guy is very bad news. He is not a good business man and has apparently spent the money already. Bad, bad news.
