Scamming people to push their products/services

Ugh. Just had an interview with these bottom feeders. I was applying for a Manager position with Children International through Florida Marketing.

Here is my step by step experience with these jokers.

1st I walk in to their lobby. I stop and paused for a moment to see around 16 other people all wearing business attire (Red Flag #1).

Then I walk up to the front desk receptionist and she has piles and piles of applications, she hands me a clip board with a one piece sheet application form and tells me to attach my resume when I complete it (Red Flag #2).

One of the questions in the application form asked if I can drive, had reliable transportation & what the make and model was (Red Flag #3).

While waiting for my name to be called, at least 10 people walked in before I did. None of which came back out. So I realized it was some sort of processing center. Red Flag #4

When I got called to the back, I noticed it was a real crappy looking open area with at least 3 or 4 offices off to the sides. Boxes, supplies etc etc. Looked like storage/work area. They immediately explained that this is one of their lesser nice looking office areas to interview people. Red Flag #5

Two guys and I sitting in this small office. They start their pitch. Explaining who they are and the companies they represent. Explained that they are hiring for Children International. They told me that everyone starts at the same place doing booths at malls and events trying to get people to give them money for children international. They said that the average pay is 600-700 a week. Then over a period of time you get promoted to manager to over see around 20 people.

They told me 2nd interview would be going out on the field with a manager to see the work environment, then you get hired.

This company is a scam, this week they are selling sponsorship's for Children International and next week they'll be selling knives for one of their "other" clients they represent.

They shouldn't be advertising to hire for managers just to get you in there and hire you as a mule to push their gig. I'm a professional sales/marketing person with an impressive resume, so when they asked me what I thought, I told them "look, I've been there and done that, I'm way over qualified to be doing something like this. I came here to interview for a manager position and this is not it". They said ok and asked if the number on my application form is my cell phone and I said "yes". Then he says "ok if things look strong then we'll give you a call". I chucked and said "please don't". Then the meeting was over and I walked out. When I went through the doors I turned around and notice a different company name on the "exit door". Why do that? Because it's a scam to get quality people in process to push their trash.

Think about it. If they are processing 10 people per hour that's about 1,600 people they are "interviewing" a month. Let's say about half will go for the second appointment to check out the environment for the day. That's 800 people pushing their product/service. Assuming you are out there for 4 hours, that's 3,200 man hours of free labor that they may not have to pay you for since it was a "discovery day". They probably pay around $300 a week plus bonus (people who sponsor a child). Which some how equates to $700 a week. I can only assume they have extremely high turn over.

This is a good gig for someone who is looking for some sort of income while still looking for another work opportunity. If you a professional and value your reputation and time then run.
