I was sent a fax on Oct. 10 stating that we owed US Public Yellowpages $672.12. I then received a phone call, from a woman, claiming we had this charge, were past due, and needed to pay immediately. I informed her that I needed to see a copy of our signed authorization to which she said she didn't need one because any amount under $799.00 only required a verbal. She stated their lawyers had all the legal documentation they needed to consider a verbal contract binding. I told her we would not be paying this and faxed back her bill with a note to that effect. At this point, other then the fax, we had never received a bill. They were trying to charge us for late fees from June when they say we authorized this as well as "pre-legal" fees. Approximately a week later I received a phone call from a Nathan Forbes, who informed me if the bill was not paid immediately Wednesday there was a court date set. Again I told him no one authorized this, to which he played me a generic recording of an employee stating her name, and then a bunch of yeses and nos. The person who made this recording was under the impression she was cancelling an order as with many other of the victims of this scam. When our owner called, not only would they not play him the recording but after our owner informed him we had spoken to our own lawyers and the federal trade commission he hung up. Please report this company immediately the more complaints the sooner they will be shut down.
