Public Yellow Pages began calling our company saying that they were trying to collect a delinquent bill. Our receptionist called them to find out what the bill was about. They recorded that conversation, in which our receptionist tells them, "Yes. I am authorized to receive an invoice. I will take a look at it."
After being hired as the bookkeeper, I called the company to clear the matter up. They played me a recording of the above conversation, claiming that that was the "verbal authorization" for the charge.
Explain to me this: How is she authorizing a charge that they had already charged to us? How can that possibly be construed as authorization for the previous charge?
