Individual came to my door. He was very charming talking about how it would help him go to college. I am a student myself and believe everyone should have a chance to have an education. I wrote a check and purchased a magazine subscription. When I looked a couple hours later at my bank account, I realized I could not afford to pay the subscription that month or else I would be overdrawn.
Fortunately he texted me later that evening (to thank me for the order) but I regretfully had to tell him I couldn't afford it. He understood and I trusted that he would throw away the order and tear up the check. I recently looked at my bank statement and saw that he had, in fact, turned it in, and I was in fact, overdrawn like I knew would happen.
I was angered, shocked, and hurt by this as I trusted he would do as I asked. Judging by the other comments I'll probably never get the subscription either. No one EVER picks up the phone, unable to leave a message. Faxed a complaint today, doubt I'll ever get a response.
I now have a bad taste in my mouth for anyone who ever comes to the door. Too bad because there are a lot of -actual - good causes out there.
