I had a horrific experience today at one of your Walgreens in Orlando, FL. I was buying the One Touch Verio IQ Diabetes Meter that was 69.99. Walgreens' coupon policy states that I can use one manufacturer and one Walgreens coupon per item. I used a $50 coupon found in the Walgreens October IVC Booklet as well as a $30 manufacturer coupon that I found in the "Diabetes and you" booklets found in the pharmacy. Now when doing the math using both coupons would have given me a negative balance of -$10.01. Other stores like Walmart for example will allow you to use this negative balance to apply to the rest of your basket purchase or if you choose they will give it to you in cash. Perhaps, I was a bit ignorant but I assumed that Walgreens would do they same. Although after today's ordeal I learned that was not the case. I got a $10 giftcard as well as some other miscellaneous items to use that balance. I completed my purchase and paid for my items and at that moment the cashier decided that she was going to ask the manager if it was okay for me to use both coupons AFTER I had already paid. Once the "manager" came over all hell broke loose. He immediately told me that I could not use them both because I was getting the giftcard for free and repeatedly told me that I was an unethical person for doing so. He literally FORCED me to return the items that I had already purchased because he said that I stole from Walgreens by having them pay for that gift card. Walgreens put out that $50 coupon and ironically enough put out the manufacturer coupon for that same item for $30 in their diabetes and you booklets found in the pharmacy. Had I been able to go through with my transactions Walgreens would have had to eat the cost of the $50 coupon which they issued and would have still redeemed the manufacturer coupon for the face value of $30.00. He later told me that he would let me use both coupons but he would reduce the $30 qpon to $20, which is contradictory and ridiculous because now Walgreens gave me $20 off instead of $30 as the coupon suggested and they are still going to redeem it at face value of $30.in that case Walgreens would be the one STEALING $10 off of me and the coupon that I gave them to redeem.
I was completely floored at that manager's actions which were completely out of line and ridiculous. I have already filed a complaint with corporate. I have had plenty of bad experiences at Walgreens in the past for a magnitude of reasons. I am willing to drive a little furhter to recieve courteous treatment at CVS from their customer service oriented, knowledgeable employees. Mind you, I live less than a mile away from Walgreens. I am sticking with my extracare bucks card (which gives WAY better incentives and rewards anyways) and that stupid balance rewards card went in the trash
