Grand Mayan is a SCAM

The Mayan Resort lies and scams! Their sales representative flat out lied about the benefits of their program and all programs associated with them; we are frustrated that we have been lied to, scammed, and defrauded. We purchased 1 week plus 2 Mayan weeks and 1 Vida week per year. That is 4 weeks per year, with the promise of no maintenance fees unless we use the weeks, promises of great exchange power, promises of guaranteed rent-back options, promises of affiliate memberships with great discounts and travel benefits, and promises of extra weeks thrown in with easy booking and availability.

After a very long presentation, distractions, and stories of grandiose and pinpoint explanations for anything questionable we initialed through the contract. We were never informed of ANY cooling off period by law to retract the contract and any written guarantees were discarded with the salesmans notes. Also, our official documents were quickly out of our hands and conveniently mailed to our house while we were still on vacation which took about 10 days so we could not cancel. Looking further into this operation upon returning home, I am finding the main points were blatant lies and I have no faith in the rest of the other promises to hold true do to the distrust of the basics upon which this contract was set.

The most serious of these lies and misrepresentations pertains to the trading of our week into the San Francisco Exchange Company (SFX). We were told that our one week would trade in for three weeks at SFX and that SFX had their own inventory as well as access to both RCI and Interval International. This was three weeks straight up, not bonus weeks or special weeksthree for one with huge inventory to pick from and only paying a standard exchange fee per week (appx $150).

Multiple times I made sure of this wording and that this exchange was real and that they were not BONUS weeks. He insisted and repeated they were 3:1 guaranteed. The value of the trade and the inventory availability was a major selling point to us in purchasing at the Mayan. This turned out to be a bold-faced lie. Upon contacting SFX directly I was informed that they do not have any access to RCI nor Interval inventory AND our week will trade for only one week at SFX plus 2 BONUS SFX weeks. These bonus weeks run from $399-$799 a week. That is far more than a typical exchange fee more of a quick-getaway rate exchange companies offer everyone all the time. We definitely would not have purchased having known this.

Another major selling point and major issue is the selling back of our extra weeks. We were told that our unused weeks can be very easily rented out to offset the cost of purchase. This was extremely over-exaggerated and misrepresented and heavily pushed by the sales guy. This was 95% of the focus of the presentation. It was pushed as the primary way that the Mayan does business encouraging us to rent the weeks out (through The Golf Exchange) to bring the Mayan qualified clientele for future purchasing. We did initial on the contract that we were not swayed by promises of resale, but we were told more than once that this was a formality by Mexican law because they could not guarantee return amounts, but that the reality is it is common practice for them, very easy to do, and guaranteed to rent.

I had the sales person look me in the eye more than once and asked about the validity of this and I was told it was a slam dunk. Skeptically, I told him if it performed even half of what he was promising over the few hours we spoke, then it still would be a good deal. After researching further I am finding multiple scams run by the Mayan with this same procedure and I am finding that weeks do not rent like we were told not at all. This too was a complete lie told directly to influence my purchase decision, and I have never heard back from that company again.

I have tried to contact them numerous times the last few months and when they do respond it is always someone different who says theyll look into this for methen they never get back to me or it is someone different who responds and they have no answers. Do not do business with this company or any of its affiliates. They only want to take your money.
