I responded to a flyer for maintenance and home services by
"John's Handyman Services" advertising confidence, expertise, and local references. I contracted with John for a small job. He took the money and ran. I paid John in advance because of the small job. I went out of town, returned to find he did not do any of the work. After calling and giving him a deadline for return of money or complete job, was met with "Chill Out..." then total ignorance.
I am a single elderly woman and I don't think people who advertise as being long time resident to gain trust to those unsuspecting home owners should be allowed to get away with this business practice.
