Consumer Report

Back on March 16, my computer was running very slowly and not down-loading programs and web sites properly. I clicked on an alleged Microsoft site for correcting down-load and access problems, which prompted me to call the help line (no charge for access problems). Once I got a technician on the phone, he had me go to www.ammyy.com to allow him access to, and control of, my home computer. He moved through the operating system and brought up a listing of "viruses and non-functioning programs". He started cleaning out the problems and offered me a round-the-clock monitoring and service program for $299.00 that would last as long as I had this, or any other computer. I accepted the offer and charged it to my credit card. Two weeks later, he called me and asked why I had stopped payment for the program. I told him I had not stopped payment and that my credit card bill contained the $299 charge. He said the company (teche. 4pc) had not received their money. On May 27th I got a call at 11:30 PM EDT saying that apparently someone had tried to hack into my computer and that I needed to turn on my computer and go to www.ammyy.com to let them check my computer. After about an hour, I was told that no damage had been done, and that they had discovered that my $299 payment was hung up in their Western Union holding account and that we needed to fill out a release form. He (Siddhartha Singh) brought up the form on the screen and we filled it out with him as the receiving agent and my name, address, and credit card information (which I typed in) as authorizing release of the funds to the company. The first time he hit the continue button to submit the form, it was rejected, so we tried again. This time, and the next couple times the "Western Union" form timed out before we completed it, and then a completed form was submitted, and again rejected. He had me try another card, but the form timed out a couple more times before he told me the Western Union website was experiencing problems, so we gave up for the night. He called back on June 10th and we tried again, successfully this time, after which he told me that my credit card had been charged three times and that I needed to set up a Western Union account so he could send back the extra payments, and call him with the 10-digit MTCN number so he could send me the over-payments, and that I needed to leave a $500 deposit to keep my account open to receive the payment. (I have never before usedWestern Union.) The transfer never arrived, and when I checked my credit card bills on line I discovered an extra Western Union charge and an extra tecpro charge on one card and Western Union charges on the second card. At this point, I called the credit card companies to stop further billings, close the accounts, and request billing dispute forms to submit to the credit card companies.
