Nugget Market has two stores near-by where I live. They are located precisely to benefit from the student, college staff and retiree population in a big college town and the commute-to-work residents driving long distances to other N.ca areas. They are in a position to exploit the busy working and student population that has little time to take care of their marketing with comparative shopping outside the immediate area.
Nugget advertises in-store that they have the best prices in our area but it is actually the reverse; and they don't match lower prices from other stores which is something they promote as a loyalty incentive.
It is my supposition that they are a Christian owned corporation because they have in-store employee pep meetings which include a daily prayer. The cashier staff is composed of a large number of 'imported' residents from the Central Valley of N.ca infamous for their ultra-conservative Republican, self-righteous church going prejudices. There is a conflict of cultures at their store and it shows. The Nugget employees come to a college town community, with a well known liberal bias, to find work but appear to dislike/have-disdain-for the local CA customers.
There seems to be a group attitude of passive aggressive resentment for their customers beneath a thin veneer of check out pleasantries. The Central Valley GOP diaspora brought with them the usual self-righteous, small minded, low information hardened judgmental disposition that is so common to rabid CA conservatives.
My guess (from many years of living in the area) is that Nugget only hires overt Christians and then re-enforces the us-vs-them work atmosphere with daily pep-prayers which is ANTITHETICAL for customer support and service.
In any case their work staff has a hostile mental temperament for the local resident customers in my opinion and experience.
