I had to place a call from a pay phone in Ottawa Train Station to a phone in Kingston, Ontario. I used my credit card for the transaction. When I got my credit card bill, the charge for the call was $11.49. I called wimactl*8884760881 calgary. After investigation, they told me the following
1- My call lasted 13 seconds. However, the minimum charge is for 2 minutes at 99 cents per minute
2- there is a connection fee of $ 7.99
3- Add 13% taxes and other charges, your total is $ 12.49
I threatened to take this to the CRTC. At that point, I was offered a 35% discount on the call. I am overseas now and I accepted the discount. This is first class robbery. The funny thing is that the phone is a BELL CANADA phone, but the service is outsourced to that outfit in Calgary. $ 11.49 for 13 seconds!!!
