A young black man approached me at Town Center Mall today in Jacksonville, FL. He was very hyper and spoke fast. He was dressed in his "sunday best" and was sitting on a bench and said, "Sir, may I ask you to please vote for me to win a scholarship for college?" I didn't want to be bothered but he continued on speaking and telling me all this stuff about how he and this other girl are selling magazine subscriptions and he earns points for each subscription. I told him I didnt have any money and he said if I went to the ATM he would get an additional 50 points and he only needed 200 more points to get 20,000 points and he would get a $1,000 scholarship to help him pay for "out of state tuition costs, e.G. Room and board"... I stupidly fell for it and ended up giving him $28.00. He wrote me a receipt. I went online tonight and read up on the scam. It's tragic. I just hope they dont call or bother me next week. I am just glad I gave him cash and not my credit card or checking account information. Beware! They are very slick and smooth talkers!
