I was treated unfairly by Big Lots Inc. (9718 Old St. Augustine Rd, Jacksonville, Fla) and Jacksonville Sheriff Dept. I purchase about $1800.00 of furnishings including 2 Serta Queen Mattresses. The Mattresses were damage and other items delivered damage. After 2 weeks, between Corporate (Columbus Ohio), District Manager and Local Managers, I received no satisfactory solution, so I returned all items, by delivery truck. When I arrived Saturday, April 7th, The clerk told me that only 1 mattress set would be refunded and to remove the rest of the furniture from Big Lots Inc. I call the Police. When the Sheriff arriveed they immediately started treating me like a criminal asking for ID, How long I been in Jacksonville? What brought me here (FLA)? The store clerk had already ask me to leave the store, which I immediately went outside for the police. I asked the sheriff, Why can't I get a full refund and presented a valid sales receipt (April 7th was 30th day for refunds/returns). The outcome was I called 911 again for a Sheriff Supervisor, He came -I asked him to check and witness that my furniture arrived to Big Lots, He refused-saying He don't get involve in civil matters I was told to leave immediately. I've since learned that a trespassing report was filed and if I returned I would be immediately arrested. Big Lots has $1800.00 of merchandise that I returned, As of today I have received no refund. I will be obtaining a copy of the Sheriff report, because there's false info and Officers that were not at the scene listed in the report. I'am a 56yo African American female, RN for 18years battling Cancer. Any help would be appreciated. I believe I was treated harshly because of my race (out of everyone on the scene I was the only African American along with my daughter) The incident happened at the Mandarin Big Lots Location on April 7th.
