On February 6 I went into the website for Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility, in New Jersey, to inquire about phone calls to an inmate. A window popped up called Jail Call Solutions and I clicked onto it to inquire about their service. I called their phone number and spoke with an individual who proceeded to tell me how to obtain a local number through their webpage for a 3 month period at the price of $ 99.85 and how it would save me a “bundle” as he called it, to make unlimited calls. After paying this service through my Master Card I was then instructed to call Global Tel Link and set up the phone number JCS provided. I did as instructed and when asked the phone providers name I told them it was Jail Cell Solutions. Immediately GTL told me I was scammed by this company as they will provide a local number but not one that’s accepted by GTL. I called JCS and stated to them what I was told and how I was advised of the scam. Immediately the individual I spoke with, Bob, said in a very loud tone, “You told them it was from our company? ” I replied, “Yes”. He said I should have told them it was from another carrier and from that day refused to take any calls. I was never instructed to say anything of the sort as I would have known at that point it was a scam.
I called my credit card company, to dispute this charge and was given a temporary refund pending Jail Call Solution’s reply. Now Jail Call Solutions is saying they provided their service and it’s not their fault if Global Tel Link, who owns the phones in the Facility, won’t accept the phone number. I feel I was grossly misinformed and JCS’s service was not done properly. How can they say it was only for a local number when their website clearly says, “calls for inmates”? They’re definitely passing the buck to Global Tel Link and I feel it’s very unfair and most illegal.
