Carleton Recovery Centers of Prescott, Az is a treatment center focused around making money rather than helping individuals with substance abuse. Barry Cooney, the Executive Director of the facility is notoriously known for being in this field for the insurance money rather than showing true compassion and understanding to recovering alcoholics and drug addicts.
This treatment center does not genuinely care about the well being of their clients, they have gone as far as letting people stay active in their addictions, for fear of losing money if they were to kick them out (which would be the safer option to both other clients and staff members). If a client's insurance expires they are immediately discharged without the opportunity of scholarship or finding a different means of paying for treatment.
One client was let on a three day pass to visit their home, and while they were away, they relapsed. A month later the same client asked to visit home again, and they were granted the same privileges even though a month before they had proven their inability to stay sober while at home. Within two weeks the client had refused to come back and was dead.
When the clinical staff was asked about what determined their decision to let this client go home the reply was, " % didn't have much hope for getting sober anyway." There is not one client who has stayed sober from this facility, they do not provide proper care nor do they wish to. This facility's goal is to intake a client and then keep them as long as possible, allowing them to lie, cheat, and steal while providing them a comfortable bed to sleep in.
