If the Bank of America situation concerned the FTC then this should also catch their interest. Last summer I called SiriusXM and arranged to changed my method of payment from a SiriusXM auto debt to an auto bill payment from my credit union account. When I paid SiriusXM monthly automatically from bill pay, I started receiveing a monthly statement with a two dollar charge for sending me a monthly statement. When I called and told them that the statement was unnecessary they told me that there was nothing they could do about, that it was computer generated.
In choosing my battles I decide to let them charge my checking account. Now I have just notice a dollar increase in the monthly fee with no prior notice. Last year before I tried paying with bill pay they increased the fee two dollars with no prior notice, which was one of the reasons I wanted to set it up so I paid them. Its clear why they want to use auto debts. They just want you to give them a blank check. There is no other reason for me being charged two dollars every month just to pay with my bill paying service!
