I have a tenant who called Suburban for a price to bring a new tank and install at residence. She was quoted a price of $1.99 a gallon to start then it would go up to standard rate the next fill. I do not remember rate she was quoted but it was pretty close to other providers. So she arranged it. So yesterday they delivered tanks and the tank delivery person unhooked previous suppliers tanks and he requested upfront money for the tank. She said she got HEAP (energy assistance program) and he said oh "I need cash now to hook up" He said it was for 1 tank only. She said she was told her Heap would fill the 2 tanks for now with funds they were getting from HEAP. She called office and they said Oh no, its 3.52 a gallon since your on Heap!!! How can they charge 2 different rates? Thats fraud if they are charging HEAP people 3.52 a gallon and others less. Its like saying okay milk is 2.50 a gallon but if you get food stamps you are deducted 3.50 a gallon for same product.
The worst part is tanks got sent back, and he said he could not look up previous tanks due to liability issues so this family (with 2 small children ages 2 and 4) did not have central heat all afternoon till today and its a snowstorm and about 15 degrees out! I gave them electric heaters and they got another one from family and they have been using non stop.
Now I have to say that this is what the tenant told me happened and I believe it is just as she says since tanks were NOT installed and she called me several times during conversation with Suburban and deliveery person.
How can Suburban do this? Is this not a misuse of government funds? Its price gouging!
Anyone have this happen to them? She feels liek she was mistreated and has contacted the attorney generals office and I am going to take action too... This is just wrong!
