Prayer By Mail, Prayer rug rip off Please read this before you do anything stupid, and here's how to report it, too

"Saint Matthew's Churches" recently sent me a letter regarding a "prayer rug" and instructions on how to use it. Quite frankly, I have zero religious inclinations, but this was too fascinating to pass up.

It came addressed to "RESIDENT - TO A FRIEND", and had a "prayer" printed on the back that, among other things, bestowed blessing to "someone in this home spiritually, physically, & financially." That was the first clue.

Next was the letter. It was addressed "Dear... Someone Connected with This Address", and had lots of bold type, red underlines and a very large message in the middle that declares "God's holy blessing power is in the enclosed anointed prayer rug we are loaning you to use!!!" The envelope seemed a little flimsy for a rug, and sure enough, the "rug" is a small, poster-sized picture of Jesus's face in purple printed on paper (complete with little fringe printed around the edges).

Please note the following sentance in the letter: "GIVE GOD YOUR BEST SEED AND BELIEVE HIM FOR HIS BEST BLESSING (St. Luke 6:38)." You will also notice a little area at the bottom of the checklist that says "Enclosed is my seed gift to God's work of $ %."

BEFORE YOU GIVE THEM ANYTHING please take a look at this website entitled the "Shroud of Tulsa": http://www.maxmccoy.com/Shroud of Tulsa.htm. Do a search for the information mentioned if you need to verify it. Do not give money to these people. Even though I have no religious beliefs, I am fairly certain that praying for "this amount of money $ %." isn't in the normal dogma. One more thing, DO NOT SEND THE "RUG" BACK unless you want to end up on the junk mail list from hell.

Report mail fraud (which is what this is) to the U.S. Postal Inspector at: https://www.usps.com/postalinspectors/fraud/MailFraudComplaint.htm
