I shipped a package from UPS Store #4992 at 211 Main Street, New Rochelle, NY 10801, on July 15. It was an internet deal that I settled on COD. I went to the UPS Store and requested guaranteed funds with full insurance. The item was a watch valued at about $1500. The COD amount was $1159. UPS charged me $122.30 for shipping to a buyer in Chicago, IL. Long story short, the UPS Store packed it and said my COD amount was fully insured no matter what happened and I would definitely get my item back or the money.
One week later, they told me to come into the store to get the certified check they had picked up from the location. The check was clearly a fake printed from someone's inkjet printer. I told the UPS Store manager, Thomas, that this was a joke, but I verified the check with Chase Bank anyway, and they laughed at it.
Clearly the UPS driver was blind, because no one would think this check is real. Plus, I didn't ship this directly through UPS; I shipped it through the store. They did not make me sign a disclaimer saying that I run the risk of not getting my funds. They said this is a guaranteed transaction, which was not the case.
After a week of going back and forth, they just said it's too bad, we can't help you. They did not even offer to return the shipping cost. Pure scam, not only from the person passing the check but also because the funds are not insured and not guaranteed like they say at the store.
Small claims court, here I come.
