I first contacted these people in June re: a move in Aug. I spoke to a Sharon and she quoted me a price of 1100.00 - granted it was just a ballpark figure. We moved from Va. To Alabama. I then called GPS movers again. I spoke to a Jack who was very nice. I gave him the dimensions of the storage facility and the items in the unit. We have a lot of boxes, triple dresser, mirror, chest on chest dresser, couch, loveseat, aquarium, queen size mattress set and other miscellaneous items. He quoted me a price of 2200.00 with a discount of 200.00. It was to be paid in 3 allotments. They needed 600.00 to hold the truck and secure the date. On the move date, the movers called my sister (who is in Va. With the storage key) to let her know they would be there between 7 - 10 am.
Later on, they called her again, they were lost. She found them at the Taco Bell eating lunch! The truck had a cardboard sign duct taped on the side and the license plate was in the front windshield!!! They got out of the truck. Looked inside of the facility and told my sister they needed a check for 2400.00!!! They claimed the weight was 8500 pounds - mind you we have moved the same furniture by ourselves (my husband is 63 and I am 53) 3 different times in his pick up truck! That's not the worst part - they would need another check for 2400.00 when they got to Alabama in addition to the 600.00 deposit they already took from our account! They could load the truck, weigh it - but that would also be a charge!
Needless to say - I told them to go back to NY!!! I called the customer service line and spoke to an " Ann" - there was nothing she could do - I would need to talk to the driver "Mike" whom I just got off the phone with! So, I then called my friendly representative "Jack", who couldn't do anything either! I asked for a supervisor which he informed me - he was and I did not need to talk to anyone else but him! As I stated earlier, I am 53 and the manner in which he spoke to me I was totally speechless. It's amazing how these people can be so nice but when problems come up - customer service is the last on the list! To make a long story short - these people are rip - offs. I managed to speak to another supervisor whom informed me - he couln't do nothing either - I needed to read the contract - they need 72 hours for a cancellation! I had absolutely no intentions on cancelling but when the price goes from 2000.00 to 4800.00 plus another 600.00 deposit - I was totally upset! It doesn't appear that I will be getting any of my deposit back. I don't expect all of it but maybe some of it. Do not do buisness with these people!!!
