I love my four aquaglobes

I resisted planting anything in pots until I found aquaglobes. The only problem, how to fill them? The recommended method, fill from a faucet or fill a sink and submerge them, seemed wasteful of water and slow. I checked on the internet and found no workable solution. I was looking for a tiny funnel when I bought a clear plastic ketchup squeeze bottle for about $1.

After you fill the squeeze bottle with water, stick the tip into the neck of the aquaglobe, leaving room for air to get around it, and squeeze. If you don't leave room for air, the water justs squirts back out. One bottle fills one large globe. I don't know why aquaglobe doesn't make a deal with the manufacturer and include these with each globe.

As for a lot of complaints on the internet about the aquaglobe emptying right away - the water flows out of the globe if there is air around the tip. If you insert the tip slowly and carefully into the soil, even if some soil gets into the tube, the water will still soak into the surrounding soil when the soil dries out. Punching a hole into the soil first seems a waste of time and, if the hole is larger in diameter than the aquaglobe tip, there will be an airspace around the aquaglobe tip and it will empty immediately. I have my plants outside in a dry climate and only fill the aquaglobes about every 2 weeks.

The best way to clean the aquaglobe tip is with a toothpick. Just jostle the toothpick around with the tip pointed down and the soil will fall out. Be careful of the aquaglobe tip, it can be sharp. Even if some soil goes into the globe, it will come out as the water empties.
