Got 3 from Dad-in-laq - Aqua Globe

Went "up north" with the family to visit in-laws. Just as we were getting ready to leave, my father-in-law tries to pass off four Aqua Globe s on me. He says that he "couldn't get them to do anything." I only took three, as we were riding the bus and I could only fit 3 in my carry-on bag. Well, I've just gotten home and plugged them into the houseplants. I'm really hoping that the globe will rescue my fern, which was a fairly expensive plant, at least on my budget, but which has been turning brown and drying out. We've tried everything with the fern, watering more, watering less, taking it outside, then back inside. Using Miracle Gro (at the advice of the nursery where we bought it), but nothing seems to work. I'm convinced that the amount of water has something to do with it, and if we could just regulate that, it would do better. Which is where the Aqua Globe comes in. So... I will monitor the fern's progress over the next week and let you know what happens.

As far as the other comments people have posted about the globes being hard to fill and the stems plugging up, my experience has been:

A) for the thin-stemmed globe, use just a trickle of water, and it should fill up in just a few minutes. For other globes, less than a minute.

B) the instructions that come with the globe TELL you to FIRST MAKE A HOLE IN THE SOIL BEFORE STICKING THE GLOBE IN. If you just "jam" the stem down into the soil without first putting in a hole, OF COURSE the stem will plug up with dirt and no water will flow. So, get yourself a trusty pencil and poke a hole FIRST, then put the stem in.

Last but not least, my father-in-law still has one globe left which he doesn't want. He would probably be glad to ship it to you if you were to pay him the shipping cost. Email me at [email protected] if you are interested

And now, a question for the group, please email your reply to [email protected] if you have the answer: Can you put Miracle Gro (or other plant food) in the water when you use an Aqua Globe, or is this a bad idea? Thanks!
