Yours will have been the fourth (4th) agency with whom I have filed the following complaint, and am still waiting for resolution: In December I purchased a home appliance warranty contract from the above company, based at 35 N. E 40th Street, Miami, Fl. My monthly premiums werer $41.95 with a $65.00 service fee for every claim submitted. On 02/12 I filed a claim regarding my water heater. Home Choice sent a local technician (SOP) to my home to assess the problem. The technician reported that the wires on my unit were extremely frayed and recommended that the water heater be replaced. He provided a temporary fix so that I might have hot water for an emergency appointment on that day, while we waited for the approval of Home Choice to replace the unit. Home Choice choose to disregard the technician's recommendation, leaving me in "harms way" to continue using a defective water heater.in late May again my water heater had a complete breakdown and caused black smoke to premeate my entire home! A second technician, sent out by Home Choice responded and stressed the eminent danger of a fire risk resulting should this heater NOT be replaced. For the second time, the above company choose to disregard their representatives recommendation to replace my water heater! Since that time, I have been waiting for the company to approve a replacement water heater. During the interim, I have been advised by the technician NOT to use the unit as he feared high risk of a home fire. After two weeks of pleading with Home Choice to honor their contract, and it became obvious that they would no longer communicate with me, I filed my 1st complaint with the local consumer affairs Bureau and received no response. I then filed with a state comsumer affairs office and was informed that after investigating my complaint, they ruled in my favor, but had no authority to enforce the company to act. I then filed with an organization in Miami, FL (Seniors Vs Crime) who conducted a thourough investigation of my complaint, and of the company. I was advised that the company had literally hundreds of complaints lodged against them and apparently had little interest in honoring their contractual agreements.in all honesty, the company did contact me last week on August 3rd (probably because Seniors Vs Crime is a division of the local police department) to offer me $150 to settle my complaint. The Seniors Vs Crime Agency advised that I should probably accept the offer as it is clear that the company does not intend to negotiate fairly. The total cost of a new water heater is approximately $329. I agreed to accept the offered amount from Home Choice, but asked if they wolud reconsider and pay the full price for the water heater. Since then, they have stopped all communication with me again. I am a Senior Citizen, and a veteran, and paid my premiums to this company in advance, as well as my dues to my country, and absolutely refuse to be another one of their VICTIMS! They have gotten away with scamming the American people far too long! I am respectfully asking for your assistance in resolving this issue. Thank you in advance.
