I purchased a home shield warranty about a year ago. About 3 weeks ago my water heater stopped making hot water. I called up AHS and reported a problem. They sent a technician out to take a look at the water heater. The technician indicated it would cost me and additional $1300 dollars. I know when I am being gouged so I called AHS back and told them I was being gouged.
They indicated that was what I would need to pay. I fought with them for a whole week to get another technician to come out, finally they agreed. The second technican indicated that it would cost $500 (because of additional upgrades for codes) which was reasonable.
Now, here is where it gets out of control. Next the company who is contracted to do the work for AHS said they didnt have my type of water heater in stock and AHS would need to ship it to them. I contacted AHS over a week and a half period at which time AHS indicated the contractor would need to order and the contractor indicating AHS would need to order.By this time I was already without hot water for over 2 weeks!!!
I finally got on the phone with AHS and told them I would not be getting off the phone until they got it all worked out with the contractor. AHS then comes back to me and says they have ordered the water heater and it would take 4 weeks for delivery!!??!?!?! I went off.
That means I would be without hot water for nearly two months. I told them they could install and similar water heater in my house, I just need hot water. AHS would not do this. They would only install the exact same water heater and it was on back order, I would need to wait 4 weeks. They then offered me a cash out that was many hundreds of dollars less than what it would take for me to get the water heater purchased and installed. I asked for the money back for the warranty which they would not return. I said screw it.
I am attempting to seek legal action against AHS. They will pay for my weeks and weeks without hot water and there weeks and weeks of inaction. Never do business with this company. They are ripoffs and do not provide the service they claim they will provide.
