I went to the Sunoco station in Platekill NY on the NY thruway. It was raining. I pushed the handicapped button 5 or 6 times and was ignored. Pushed the help button and was ignored. I am an amputee both legs above the knee. I am 76 years old. Normally if i can not get help i can climb out of my van sit on the ground and pump my own gas, however when it is raining i try not to have to do this. If i had enough gas to go to the next service area i would have but the rain was a problem. I selected the Platekill station. Clearly a mistake i will not make again. NJ is close i will detour there and than make my way home with much cheaper gas i do not even have to think about pumping.
