Aka Greasy Sales Dealer ripoff USED CAR SCAM - looks good, LOOK AGAIN, and UNDERNEATH the car before signing the line

Sat - 1/24/04. A 2002 Toyota Camry Solara (used) was purchased form Leonardtown Ford - Leonardtown, MD by AJ - my 18 yr old daughter). A $3000.00 "trade in" on a Saturn SC2 - towards purchase price of car was transacted) In the very first dealing with the dealership they were trying to write up the purchase price of the car as 20K when the sticker said 19K when I argued the fact they went an pulled a hand written tag off of the rear view mirror that said 20K but when we went to the main show room I pointed out that the car was listed in their ad as 19K. They said no that wasn't the price I had to go and rip the actual sticker off of the side window, to prove the car was 19K before they would agree that they had written up the little tag wrong we should have walked away right then because the deal got more sour after that point.

Monday 1/26/04. Car was brought back to dealer - to report that there was a loud noise coming from right rear tire area. The dealership sent her away - saying weather was too messy - come back when road was dry, they couldn't look at then. (this was day 2 of her having possession of the car)

Friday 1/30/04. Car was brought back to dealer for 2nd time. A service technician rode with AJ, and said yes, noise should be checked out - but since car was still under Toyota factory warranty, take it to a Toyota dealer. The car was not placed on a lift, nor looked at mechanically just speculation on the service technicians part.

Monday 2/9/04. An appointment had been made for the car at Toyota of Lexington Park - for Monday Feb 9. Car was evaluated, placed on a lift and examined by a certified Toyota mechanic at Toyota - where it was determined that the car had been wrecked - documentation from the Toyota dealer indicates that the car had been in an accident some time ago - due to rust and other indicators on the damage underneath of the car - therefore, no factory warranty would cover the damages. They recommended taking it back to the Leonardtown Ford Dealer - to have them deal with it.

Monday 2/09/04. Back to Leonardtown Ford - where they now place the car on a lift, and determine that yes the car has been in an accident... Then immediately accuse AJ of having wrecked the car. Even though the technician from the "official" Toyota dealership has indicated that the damage had obviously been done long ago, due to rust, and repair shop lines that had been drawn on the under carriage of the car, the Ford dealer insists that the damage is recent... (how rust grows in 1 week one can only speculate..) Also - find out that the financing did not go thru on the car - due to the fact that the company who they were trying to use - does not finance to anyone living in Arizona (Ms. AJs father was co-signing and he resides in Arizona) - so at this point - there are no signed contracts for the vehicle. The dealer then proceeds to tell my daughter she has to sign new papers - with a different finance company - so that they can finance it thru someone else - she does sign them because, she is at this point being completely badgered by their General Manager and the entire staff there. However, her father has not signed anything at this point. And has been advised to NOT sign the papers.

Further discussion with the General Manager indicates that they are NOT willing to just cancel the sale of the car due to the fact that the car has been involved in a previously undisclosed accident they continue to insist that Ms. Johnson has wrecked the car. The GM of the dealer advised me to contact my insurance company - which I told him I would not do until I had heard back from an attorney on what my course of action could be. He took pictures of the car, and is reporting it to their insurance company.

The car was left AT the Leonardtown Ford dealership as of 2/9/04.

Now they claim the contract is still in contention until they hear from their insurance company they also mention that on the paperwork, the trade-in was listed as only 1.00 because when she had the papers drawn up they had taken off of the sale price of the car 2999.00 (from the trade in) and they are trying to say we cant get the trade in back either
Leonardtown Ford does BAD BUSINESS. They are RIP OFF Artists don't buy cars from them
