I purchased a dog from a place called Luv and Care kennels in St. Louis, MO. I was told it was a show quality dog and was guaranteed it's health. I am a young female, and this was the first dog I ever purchased. They saw me as a sucker (and I was) I paid $500 for this dog and had a 15 day health gurantee on it, providing I take it to one of there Vets within 3 days of my purchase. The woman who helped me gave me two different sheets of Vets I could take it to.
When I took it to one of thier Vets they said she had a virus; I paid for some medication and thought nothing of it. I immediatly took it to my grandmothers house (she is a breeder and used to show dogs) Immediatly she said the dog has an underbite, which ment I couldn't show it or breed it. I checked and she was correct.
I took the dog back to the vet to get her third week puppy shots and was told she was too sick to get them, so I waited for her to get better. When I origonally purchased the dog she weighed 1lb. 7oz.in the six weeks I had her she had not gained any weight.
About 2 weeks later I came home from work and she was violently ill. I called the Vet Luv and Care sent me to and they were closed, but there was a recording that left a phone number for an emergency clinic. I called the clinic and told them her symtoms and they told me to bring her in immediatly. They ended up keeping her overnight. They will not keep the dog during the day so you have to pick it up and bring it to your normal vets office. They kept her there that day, sent me back to the clinic that night, and she spent the following day at the vets office.
By this time I had switched to a more reputable vet, so she spent those 2 days at my new Vets office. The following weekend I went to Luv and care and told them what had happened. I brought all of my vet records and reciepts. They refused to help pay for any of the bills or reimburse me for the origonal cost of the dog (I paid $500 for a show quality dog, but she is not due to her underbite) They tried to run me around in circles asking questions like "What kind of viris did she have when you brought her home?"
When I told them I didn't know they said "What kind of Vet is this that can't even tell what kind of viris it has?" But the funny thing is the vet she was referring to was the one they sent me to. They have refused to cooperate with me on any level, so I reported them to the Humane Society. I then learned they have an open case against them, and they pretty much told me they are a puppy mill.
I have done everything I can to get them out of business, but have been unsucessful thus far. My goal is not to get money. My goal is to get the helpless dogs out of thier care, and get them the medical attention, love, nutrition, and clean homes they deserve.
