This company, claiming to be "Sallie Mae Servicing" contacted me by U.S. Mail asking for information. They gave an account number, a fake 800 number, on letterhead possibly stolen from the government Sallie Mae, they gave two different P.O. Box numbers to where they claimed I could "help" them. To the best of my knowledge, the person they are asking for information on has never had anything to do with Sallie Mae, loans from Sallie Mae, Sallie Mae Servicing, Freddie Mac or any other government lending institutions. Therefore, this complaint (and several more going out to several more agencies regarding this issue are going forth today as well) may be about a illegal use of U.S. Postal services for the purposes of a fraudulent practice, identity theft and phishing. When I called the 800 number (800.766.7242) I found it is a not-in-service number, so I dialed the landline number and was immediately answered by a "Theresa" who demanded MY account number. I too, have never had any dealings with ANY Sallie Mae's, Freddie Mac's, government or not. When I checked with the T.I.P. Service, every P.O. Box number, phone number and address was different from any number on the letter I received. For every nickel that I have used to make copies and money spent to send letters of complaint in the amount of $25.00 to be returned to me by this "Sallie Mae Servicing". And if the U.S. Government has any sense at all, they will investigate this place that is using government letterhead, name and website name, in addition to fraudulently using U.S. Mail to get phishing letters out. The phone number this fraud company gives was traced back to Fisher, IN - no where near Wilkes Barre, PA.
