I helped my 85 yr old mother replace her well worn hallway/stairs carpet and had the most enjoyable experience with Ms. Kathleen Wilcox, of Empire Today.
My mother lives in Bethesda MD, and I know she replaced the carpeting at least once, but neither of us can recall when. So, seeing the years of traffic up and down the stairs, she decided to replace it. That was in 2008. Now, in we have finally gotten around to it!
I live in NYC and come down every 6 weeks or so, to help out. (My brother lives with my mother, but he works and is not necessarily home-oriented.) A personal organizer friend of mine told me that she had heard good things about Empire... So, I called the 800 number.
Bingo! I was connected to Kathleen like that. She came the next day — overcoming a dead battery in her car, professionally calling and keeping us abreast of her progress. She arrived in the damp drizzle of a gray day... Toting several portfolios of carpet and promising that if none of these appealled, she had MORE.
After inspecting and measuring the area to be covered, going over our require - ments/uses, and discussing various options, Kathleen showed us several nice brands. While the Boyar cutpile, and Bliss Silver Release/Magic Fresh were very nice... We went with the more workhorse Mohawk Berber carpet.
And, lucky us, it was on sale!
Both mother and I were very impressed with Kathleen's knowledge, profession-alism, patience, and humor. We viewed the sample downstairs, upstairs, in natural light, in lamp light, against the wood floors and the existing carpet... We chose 'Sandy Beach', and think it will be perfect in lightening up the hallway.
Installation will be in a few days; Ms. Wilcox filled out all the paper work (3 or 4 sets, in triplicate thank you!)... And, special bonus, she left us with a Mr. Empire Today bobble-head doll [sure to be a collectors' item! ]
I would strongly recommend Ms. Wilcox's services if one is considering flooring options in the Washington suburbs.
