Membership upgrade review - car tires

I went with a friend to Sam's Club in Morrow, GA - my first time. We used her member card, but I paid for my things with my debit card. As the cashier was ringing up my items, she stopped abruptly and said "before I go any further, would you like to upgrade blah blah blah?" I said do what? She said it would save more money on future purchases. I said "oh, okay - my friend could add some sort of discount to her purchases at Sam's". THEN I noticed that $34 of my $84 bill was this upgrade - 123 Advantage Plus something. She was unclear about any charge. Then I found out that my friend's membership ALREADY HAD THIS DISCOUNT. The cash register should've shown that this particular card already had this upgrade. So, after I dropped her off at her home, I went back b/c the man I spoke with on the phone said I would have to return to the store to get the refund. When I got there - and btw, they are a long drive from my home! - he refused because my friend and her card were not on me, and although he said he could do some research and get her card number, etc. (or, as I suggested, they could call her), he refused and said I would have to come back, with my friend and her card. I left, thinking 'OMG! They can take double payment for something that is Already on her card (charge twice for one thing!), but it's too much trouble to refund my credit card, which paid for the items. He was Damned LAZY for not doing the extra work, And, Above All, Sam's Wholesale taking double payment for such an upgrade is UNETHICAL. I will not get a membership there, and YES, I will drag my friend back to the damn store for one last time. No wonder she shops at Costco's mostly. All of Sam's principles have gone down the drain since the founder -WITH EXCEPTIONAL ETHICS AND CUSTOMER SERIVCE - died. It would not shock me if Sam's went went out of business sometime in the near future.
