Chased Away by Chase - overdraft

I just returned home from closing my Chase checking account, as well as two CDs worth 25k that had not yet matured. I took the penalty because I couldn't stand doing business with this bank one minute more than necessary. I was originally a WAMU customer who enjoyed the privileges of banking with them for years. When WAMU was taken over by Chase I figured I would give Chase a chance, figuring they couldn't be too different. Boy was I wrong!!! When my renters bounced a $200 check my account became insufficient, I immediately deposited $270 IN CASH to cover the negative balance. However, according to Chase since I deposited this after banking hours (I couldn’t leave work) the funds weren't considered available and I was therefore responsible for the $210.00 in overdraft fees. This seems to be a common complaint as it pertains to Chase, so it’s obvious they make a lot of money doing this sort of thing to hard working folks. Frankly, I can not think of another way to describe it other than legalized extortion. The only reason why I gave them half a star was because the branch manager who helped me had great customer service skills.in fact, as he was completing the paperwork to close my accounts he told me how Chase neglected to tell him that they placed a 10 day hold on a perfectly good check that he deposited.in the meantime he used his check card for several $1 & $2 purchases. He ended up with over $300 in overdraft fees and was unable to recover a penny of it. If the culture of this organization dictates that this is the way they should treat their employees you can only imagine how they treat their customers.
