Barloworld City (GM) Complaints DepartmentHead OfficeThe Manager FORMAL COMPLAINT REGARDING VEHICLE CHEVROLET CAPTIVA “2010”

1. i mr m.L. Retief the owner of vehicle ZCY992GP white Chevrolet Captiva 2.4Lt model 2010 hereby wish to formally complain of problems I have with my vehicle.

2. This vehicle was purchased on 31 March at Barloworld City Centurion brand new and since has been giving me problems.

3. Problems started as follow:

A. A week after I have driven this vehicle I discovered that at peak times bumper to bumper traffic the vehicle would lose power and the accelerator would not function at all without any warning light going on.in the mornings this vehicle will not start and only on the third or fourth attempt it would start. I then immediately return the vehicle to Barloworld City Centurion where the mechanics had a look at my vehicle. Without any warning light going on the service manager said it’s impossible to determine what is wrong because no signs or lights are giving an indication. My vehicle was returned to me and at that stage and the mechanic said should I have a problem again I should bring the vehicle in.

B. On 22 April the malfunction indicator light went on I went to the service manual and read that I should immediately stop driving the vehicle and report it to service department. Again no fault were found during testing this time the vehicle were tested on machine due to malfunction indicator light going on. Still my vehicle was losing power and did not start at first attempt in the mornings. I collected my vehicle the same day assuming that the problem was solved. I also asked the service advisor should the light go on again what should I do cause I only have one vehicle he told me I may drive the vehicle nothing would happen while service manual said to stop driving. Refer to job number: G 46449/58226 no fault fine at time of testing.

C. On 08 May the malfunction indicator light went on again and the same problem of losing power and vehicle not starting occurred I took the vehicle in on the 10 May and the same procedures were followed but I could not get my vehicle back the same day. This time it was discovered that software were suppose to be downloaded from the internet in order to solve problem, but they could not access it due to awaiting the dealer GM to send software. My vehicle stayed at the garage for four days and I had to phone every day to confirm what’s happening to my vehicle. My opinion poor after service and no courtesy car were given. I went out of myself no one phoning me to go and see if vehicle completed only to receive vehicle on 13 May. Refer job number: G 57458/58822 Downloaded Euro 4 Emission system for hard starting and loss of power.

D. On 19 May the malfunction indicator light went on again still no improvement on starting since software updates and I took vehicle back to Barloworld City Centurion. Vehicle tested found that sensors need to be replaced. I went to the business manager and explain to her my situation and that I am losing my patience. She called in the mechanic he explained to her that he needs to order sensors for vehicle. I although received a courtesy vehicle but again was not contacted and drove everyday till 22 May when my vehicle was fixed. Still no improvement on starting the light went off though. Refer job number: G 16034/59029 Removed and replaced both O2 sensors.

E. On 28 May the same thing happened again, I insisted that a sales representative of GM be present to solve this problem. Mr Mohammed from GM was there and they cleaned the catolyst converter but discovered that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The question I asked them was why all these changing of plugs and cleaning taking place this vehicle is brand new. I expressed my concerns once again to business manager that I am very unhappy. Refer job number: G 24496/59233 Replaced spark plugs check and cleaned catolyst converter as per factory.

F. On 31 May a manager from Barloworld City Centurion phoned me because I requested my lawyer to give them a courtesy call regarding my vehicle and poor service I have received from this company. He asked me to immediately bring in the vehicle which I did on the same day because it was discovered that there is similar problems on 3 Captivas and that GM have new software to be installed as soon as possible. I took my vehicle in and this software only came on 10 May when I received my vehicle. Still no calls regarding how far my car is I had to once again drive from home 30km every day to find out if vehicle is fixed. No job card was issued to me?

G. My vehicle is still not fixed. The malfunction indicator light went on today 12 June and it still does not start on the first attempt. I will be taking it back on 18 June. I have video recorded all starting problems and malfunction indicator light going on via my cellular phone as proof.

4. You are respectfully requested to reply within 7 days after receiving this complain either in writing or telephonically before legal steps will be taken.

5. I respectfully request that my concerns be reacted to in a professional manner. It is unacceptable for a brand new vehicle to be more in the garage than on the road.
