False Advertising. Ripoff

I am complaining about the advertisements on Paul Harvey News, not Paul Harvey himself or his news. First off, let me say that I have listened to Paul Harvey longer than I can remember and will continue to do so. I realize that his show must pay for itself through advertising.

That said, here are my opinions about a few things that are being advertised. Many more items are being advertised but I will list only a few. I urge you to be very cautious about buying any of them.

1. Bose - I bought a very expensive Bose system after listening to Paul Harvey read rave reviews about the systems. I wanted to replace a 20 something year old system. After hooking everything up I turned it on to a lot of disappointment. I tried reconnecting the wires, adjusting the amplifier settings, plus more, still it actually sounded worse than my old system. Luckily, I got my money back.

I have since realized why people think Bose sounds better. Most of the people buying them seem to be older people who are experiencing hearing problems. When demonstrating a Bose system the salesperson will turn the sound up so loud that it will make them hear anything. Thus, the buyers 'think' it sounds better just because they can now hear something.

I read somewhere that Bose systems are actually based on basic AM radio speaker technology. I can't verify this though.

2. SelectComfort - I have had back problems most of my life. I wanted to try an air bed so I bought a SelectComfort system. After the very first night I knew it was a mistake. Yet in this case I had to keep it because my wife had already gotten rid of the old matress. I would have rather slept on the floor.

Since the matress is adjustable, I can never seem to get it quite right. It is either too firm or too soft. And no matter what setting it is on, it is very difficult to get out bed because it feels like being stuck in quick sand. The more you struggle to get out the more you sink into it.

I wish there was a way I could get a refund for it. It is a very expensive piece of junk that I am stuck with. I would rather sleep on the floor. (Yes. I know I said it twice, but the floor is consistent in its firmness.)

3. Wal-Mart - Paul Harvey reads letters about how friendly and helpful Wal-Mart employees are. Where I live, Mississippi, it is almost completely unheard of for an employee to lift a finger to help with anything and if they are anything but rude I feel disaster is about to strike at any moment.

They rarely greet anybody at the door, which is a minor offense. If you ask for help they look at you like you are the idiot instead of vice-versa. And most of the cashiers are contantly in bad moods and have personalities similar to that of a warthog.

I have come to the conclusion that potential employees must take a stupidity test to work at Wal-Mart; the stupider, the better. I wish they could eliminate their employees altogether and go completely with a "serve yourself" system. I usually leave Wal-Mart in a much worse mood than when I went in. But there is nowhere else to go. Wal-Mart has killed all other businesses. I would gladly pay more at other stores in order to be treated right. And, in fact, I have actually done that on occasion.

In conclusion, the problems I have listed here are not Paul Harvey's but the advertisers themselves. Paul Harvey is merely an accomplice to their false advertising. Personally, I would not want to be associated with companies such as these.
