Charged higher than quoted price, charged more parts then boat can use at one time, missing, damaged items on return

2-27-10 I too have experianced terrible service and rip offs from Alhstrand Marine! Shame on me for going back. (I have gone back for the last time.) I bought my boat there and they seemed friendly, helped with all questions etc. Then, the first service was suggested for a 10 hour check. Price was twice as high as quoted. Would not let me take it home with out paying the extra.

Then the first winterize and tune up. Asked for the quote and was quoted aproximatly 150.00. Upon pick up, it was 100.00 more! They also said they would call. They did not, so my new boat sat for weeks in their yard (I keep it in the garadge). Upon getting home I noticed the transom mount had snapped off and was missing. How could that happen. It straps to the lower engine, so part of it should have been still strapped in place.

Went back and found it laying in the street, at their entrance. I went in and said you must have forgot to put the starp back on. They said no way, it must have been missing when it came in. Impoosible, you can't use it without. So, 60.00 bucks later, I took the new unit home and the destroyed one I found in the street. Back at home, I took the cover off the boat, and there was the original strap, in the well where the mechanic left it.

Called them back, no offer to replace and said it was my fault if it was missing, I should have notinced.

2008 winterize, again bill was aproximatly 70.00 higher than quoted and included buddy bearing caps I did not order, but was charged for, Misc., shop fees etc. I compaierd the bill for itemized items and noticed things like 3.5 qts oil last time, 4.5 qts oil the second time. 2 filler plugs one time, 3 filler plugs and seals the next time. When qustioned they said if they break one while installing the customer is charged or take one extra drop of oil, the customer is charged for the full qt of oil. If thats so, would in it not have been 4 qts, then 5 qts, no answer, just a blank look.

time running out on the season, late October, I'll take it back here agin for convienance (against my better judgment, but I did.) You guessed it. This time the oil amounts were higher. The oweners manual lsits 3.5 qts, so how did it take 5.5 qts this time? No answer. 4 fill plugs and seals, the boat only has 2. And again, the bill was 75.00 higher than the verbal quote, again! Each visit the bill was higher and still listed the first 10 hour safety check that was done the first year.

I asked how that could be and the answer was it always gets listed if you had it the first year. So I said I don't want to pay for it and to remove, he did. Reprinted the bill and the price was the same, saying it was listed, but I was not chargeed for it.

Other things noticed, I asked for no fuel stabilizer, because I put it in every fill up, yup, every time more was added and I was charged for it. A diiferent quanity (OZ) each time. The boat has run great and the work they have done seems to be good, but the surprise at the register is killing me. I have all the reciepts from them If any one would like to compair notes. Even the folks at Alhstrand (Vern, Ken, anyone) I would welcome the chance to sit down and review all. I have aproximated some of the numbers, but will gladly show anyone the exact bills and details...
